'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Mahoney Moves To Blackburn

16 year old winger Connor Mahoney has moved to Blackburn Rovers under the terms of the Elite Player Performance Plan.

The club have announced that a compensation package has been agreed with the Ewood Park outfit for the youngster, and whilst that will remain confidential, Chairman Peter Marsden told the Official Site that he felt it was a very fair deal.

'I would describe both clubs' position as 'speculating to accumulate'. Throughout every stage of Connor's career at Rovers (and even beyond) Stanley will potentially benefit quite handsomely.'

Mahoney has made six appearances for Stanley so far this season and James Beattie explained that he felt the Rovers' chance would prove to be a great opportunity given the potential the player does have.

With that said, Beattie also admits that he might be knocking on manager Gary Bowyer's door sooner rather than later to actually bring the lad back on loan, because he's already proved that he can cope with league football even though he has a lot of physical maturing to do, along with natural development as a player.

Be interesting to see if that comes off, and then how the player progresses over the coming years and clearly Accrington have an financial interest in that based on the Chairman's words.

It'll also be good for the other Academy players at the club to see him having had a route through to the first team, so it should help drive them on.
