Beattie Disappointed To Drop Two Points

Manager James Beattie has said he was left disappointed at full time after seeing Southend earn a leveller 12 minutes from the end of play.

Accrington went ahead following an own goal from Mark Phillips but we didn't keep the lead for long as they grabbed the equaliser.

In quotes carried by Lancashire Telegraph Beattie explained that he felt Southend were as good a side as we have faced so for him, to come out of the game disappointed at not picking up all three points really does show just how far Accrington have come over the first half of the 2013-14 season.

'They gave a good account of themselves and we showed some excellent passages of play and some excellent defending, apart frmo their goal where the centre half has headed in unmarked.'

Beattie says it was just a moment where our communication wasn't as good as it should've been and it was very unfortunate because one error has cost us two points in the game.

He also feels following the game that maybe we surprised Southend a little bit with our play and quality, because he thinks they would've come into the game expecting a victory but we more than matched them.

Beattie also had praise for goalkeeper Andrew Dawber who pulled off a number of good saves during the match and actually came out with the Man of the Match award, so defensively the gaffer will take a lot of positives out of the game and the 19 year old would certainly have gained a lot of confidence from his own showing.
