Stanley Fined £20,000

Accrington Stanley have been fined £20,000 by the Football Disciplinary Commission following the appointment of manager James Beattie.

The FDC have found Stanley in breach of the Football League Regulations owing to the coaching qualifications that Beattie had and has when being appointed as our new gaffer back at the start of the season.

The three man panel have found us in breach of Regulation 40 which requires all managers of clubs in League 1 and League 2 to hold a UEFA B licence, and James Beattie does not hold this qualification.

A hearing earlier this month heard evidence that the gaffer had still not attended the relevant course or confirmed a place on the relevant course for the future.

Having already reminded the club of these regulations following the resignation of former manager Leam Richardson and again following Beattie's appointment, the FDC feels it has no choice but to levy the fine.

The club have 14 days to appeal the decision, and should Beattie achieve the relevant qualification by May 1st, 2014, then £15,000 of the fine will be suspended.

Now rules is rules as they say, but it doesn't mean the rules aren't stupid.

However, two reminders later, I'm not sure Accrington can argue here as whilst obviously Beattie is focused on his job, the football and this month, the transfer market, somebody somewhere should've at least got him booked up on this course to coincide with a free weekend or for when this season has finished.
