Beattie Not Best Pleased With Abandonment
Manager James Beattie has said he isn't best pleased that our game against Morecambe was abandoned with only just over 30 minutes to go last weekend.
Referee James Adcock had held an earlier pitch inspection and announced that the game would go ahead as the majority of the rainwater had drained away, but after 58 minutes of the game following further rainfall the referee took the decision to take the players off the pitch and to abandon the game.
Speaking to the Official Site following the abandonment, the gaffer said he was seriously disappointed with the actions of the referee.
'I'm not best pleased about it. The ball stuck once as far as I was concerned in the second half and I think the game could even have been postponed for a few minutes because it isn't raining now as we're doing this interview.'
Beattie goes on to say that the pitch was also draining very quickly, as shown by the improvement over night and earlier during the day as it had been underwater, but was perfect at kick off.
'None of the players were complaining as such, though I know the Morecambe staff were and they were down to ten men. I think the referee could have given the game more time. I suppose there's a bit of disappointment that we had a numerical advantage too.'
We now await a new date for the game, where we will start again.
