Accrington Stanley have today confirmed that Will Hatfield has now signed a 12 month extension at the club.
The 22 year old made 34 appearances for us last season under manager James Beattie, and since joining us back in 2012 permanently, following his loan spell in 2011, he has made almost 90 appearances for the club now.
Speaking to the Official Site having penned the deal, Hatfield said.
'It was a good end to the season for me and the team and having had about six weeks off now I'm dying to get back and delighted to have signed up for another year.'
Hatfield adds that in the close season you always enjoy the break, and let your hair down somewhat - although these days minimum fitness levels are insisted on and players have individual work programmes - but it is difficult when you know you are out of contract because there's always that 'what if' at the back of your mind, so knowing he had the offer on the table was a relief.
'I think the manager's going to be able to keep the majority of the squad from last year, the start we had last season wasn't the one we wanted but we finished well so hopefully that can continue with the players we have staying and continuing that run.
James Beattie said of securing the midfielder's immediate future.
'I'm very happy that Will's signed. He's a tenacious, fit young man and can play in a number of positions. He's a great character, much loved in the dressing room and by the players and staff. It's a pity that he didn't get of to a goalscoring start last season and I think if we can get him scoring goals early this time then we can get him on a run.'
The gaffer goes on to say that in many ways he's an ideal footballer at his age, because he's always willing to listen and learn, and take things on board so he can develop into a better player, and managers obviously love that.
'He's still only young so hopefully we'll see a huge progression in his game this season.'
