Beattie Delighted With Pre Season Start

Following our five two victory over New Mills last night, manager James Beattie has said he was delighted with the efforts of the lads in the game.

A brace from Kal Naismith, and solo goals from Marcus Carver, George Bowerman and Will Hatfield gave us the win in our opening friendly of the summer, and speaking to the Official Site the gaffer explained.

'I've been really pleased with the way the lads have come back in. They look fit and were really good in the first week of training. We're down at Champneys Springs in Leicestershire this week and they've looked really good. This was the first opportunity to get some game time under their belts and we switched it up with a few lads who are in training with us.'

The gaffer goes on to say that playing two different teams in each half was deliberate as he wanted to give everybody a run out and for those training with us, it was obviously an opportunity for them to impress in a match situation even though it was only a friendly.

'I was very pleased with how the lads played their first game of football. We said that we wanted to get the ball and if it was on to play then play and if it's not on, put the ball into intelligent areas and try to be a bit more direct.'

Beattie goes on to say that this is his style moving forward, you adapt, and you play good crisp football when the game allows, but other times you dig in, go direct and cause problems to stretch them, open them up and not be predictable in every attack.

If we can get that mix and perfect it, it should certainly stand us in good stead moving forward, and if we can mix it up, it will help cause more problems for the opposition next season in games.
