Accrington Appoint New First Team Coach

Accrington Appoint New First Team Coach

Accrington Stanley have today appointed a new first team coach following the departure of Paul Lodge who leaves us so he can more fully concentrate on his work at Accrington and Rossendale College.

The new arrival to the position is well known John Townson who has been working at the club in various capacities within our Academy and back in 2011 he stepped up to first team coaching work as well.

He now takes that position full time working alongside Paul Stephenson and the gaffer.

The 28 year old already has his UEFA A Licence and has additional experience from working with Burnley's youth setup.

Speaking to the Official Site as news of his appointment broke, Townson said.

'I just want to say thanks for the opportunity to the gaffer and Stevo. This is a great club and one that is very close to my heart after working here for the last few years. I've built up good working relationship with lots of people and I've really enjoyed working with them. I'm looking forward to continuing those relationships in this new role.'

Townson says that he's fully prepared and ready for the step up and it's the break he's been hoping for having hung up his boots at 17 because he 'knew that I wouldn't make it' and since then his priority has been to forge himself a coaching career within the game, and he knows he can learn lots from our management duo.

Manager James Beattie said of the appointment.

'John's been working with us on the analysis and scouting side of things and is now coming in to work with the first team with myself and Paul Stephenson. He's shown how good a coach he is and I think the lads are already enjoying working with him.'
