Stanley do the double over the Dons

Accrington Stanley
2 - 1
AFC Wimbledon

The Crown Ground

31 March 2012

Attendance: 1627

Referee:

Will Hatfield repeated his super sub antics yesterday against AFC Wimbledon when he once again came on as a late substitute to score Stanley's winning goal.
The first Stanley goal came after only three minutes when skipper Luke Joyce knocked in a rebound following a Stanley free kick on the edge of the box. Wimbledon pressed for an equaliser leaving Stanley looking exposed on more than one occassion. Their equaliser eventually came before the half hour mark when Sammy Moore scored at the back post.
After the break the attempts on goal were less forthcoming from both sides and the game was looking to be heading for an uneventful draw until Super sub Hatfield kept his cool after being supplied by Bobby Grant to slip the ball past the advancing Dons goalkeeper.

Star Player

Bobby Grant who played his first game for Stanley as a naive 16 year old now looks every bit a model athletic professional, and he was all over the pitch yesterday popping up with decent shots and headers and his through ball led to Hatfield's winner.

Stanley recorded their second win under Paul Cook. It wasn't pretty football but the result was the important issue and must give the manager more ideas about how he wants to shape his team for the 2012/13 campaign.

Will Hatfield has now scored four late winners after coming off the bench. He has repaid the managers faith in recruiting him from Leeds United's reserves and if he carries on like he has done Stanley will have to keep an eye on other clubs tempting him away in the close season.
